Campaign Message

Juneteenth, the Obama Presidential Center, and the American Promise

On Juneteenth, as the Obama Presidential Center opens to the public, Lateresa reflects on Black American history, the promise of the country, and the work of turning American ideals into economic opportunity.

On Juneteenth, as the Obama Presidential Center opens to the public, I am reflecting on the long arc of Black American history and the promise of this country.

I am a proud Black American woman. I believe America is worth loving because our history shows both struggle and growth. We honor that history by putting our ideals into motion: freedom, opportunity, family, faith, education, entrepreneurship, and equal dignity under the law.

This new technological wave should not leave our communities behind. Used wisely, these tools can help expand economic opportunity, reduce bias, and give more people a real path to build wealth, serve their neighbors, and live the American promise.

Today is a day to remember, to honor, and to move forward.
